In recent years, Christians have done family hard. As society has changed ever more dramatically, at an ever increasing rate, many Christians have turned to the family – often referred to as the “traditional” family – as a bulwark against scary social change. “Family” has almost become a code word for “Christian” in some circles. Thus we have the American Family Council and Focus on the Family, which are both conservative evangelical lobbying groups. Christians have become active and fervent in resisting the tide of social change, and the general code word for that resistance is “affirming family values.”
