Given the Gospel of John’s stated purpose – that people might find faith in Jesus – we have been looking at a series of one-on-one encounters with Jesus in that gospel as examples of different sorts of faith. The religious leader Nicodemus, for instance, was an example of a wistful, would be-but-not-quite faith. The Samaritan Woman, by contrast, showed us an awakening of faith in a marginalized person.
