People, Not Ideas

To understand this question, we need to understand the disciples’ presuppositions. At that time – as often today – people assumed that illness and disability were the result of sin, either a direct punishment by God or the natural consequences of evil. Either way, though, this was a widely accepted assumption in 1st century Judaism, and it had scriptural support.
